WHAT IS THE CHALLENGE ALL ABOUT?

The MOKAN Take Charge Challenge is all about helping businesses and organizations learn more about energy efficiency and providing tools, resources and guidance to help them make lasting changes that have a financial, social and environmental impact. Participants earn points for completing tasks and the results of individual participants and the community team they are one are tracked and displayed in real time. There are prizes for the participants and community that makes the biggest impact, thus scoring the most points!

WHO CAN PARTICIPATE?

Any business or organization located within one of the participating cities (Hays, Hutchinson and Kansas City, Kansas and Warrensburg, Missouri) that owns or leases building space dedicated to the business. So this could include main street businesses, mall tenants, churches, schools or government buildings, a single building in a larger corporate campus and so on. The only exclusions are businesses based out of a primary residence and farming operations.

WHAT DOES A PARTICIPANT HAVE TO DO?

In general, all a participant has to do is sign up to get started. As a participant, you will earn points for completing a variety of tasks. The more tasks complete, the bigger the score. Besides receiving the benefit that comes from completing the task, prizes will be given to participants and the community with the most points! Plus, besides the tasks, there will be a lot of opportunities to get involved in the community and learn more about the importance of energy efficiency.

HOW LONG DOES THE CHALLENGE RUN?

The challenge starts on August 1, 2013 and ends on January 31, 2014. Points can be earned for task completed during this time. Prizes will be awarded in February 2014.

WHAT IS INCLUDED?

All participants gain access to all of the materials to participate in the challenge. This includes an in-depth Participant Guide and resource packet. Participants will also be informed and invited to local social events and education opportunities. Local contacts and sponsors have been identified that are available to help and provide guidance. Every participant will also have access to their own portal on TakeChargeChallenge.com to track your task and keep track of your score in the challenge.

WHAT DOES IT COST?

Participation in the challenge is FREE for all participants! Many of the tasks that can be completed require minimal time or resources to complete. Other tasks could require a larger commitment of time or resources, but often have a larger financial, social or environmental impact and are worth more points to complete!

ARE THERE PRIZES?

YES! Within each community, the one participant that completes the most tasks and scores the most points will win a prize package valued at around $5,000! These participant prizes are provided by the corresponding local electric utility. The community that has the largest average score of all participants will win $10,000 to be used on a community project! This community prize is provided by the Climate + Energy Project.
